Ray-Cam Co-operative Centre user:
“I don’t understand why we still have to look for Wi-Fi in Canada.  When I travel in Korea and Japan, I use my phone and I get Wi-Fi everywhere, I don’t even have to buy it.”

James Barth – VCN intern at Bowen Island Library
“Free and open Internet is a vital service provided by this and other libraries. Many of the patrons who utilize this service cannot afford personal computers or Internet access. The library provides a comfortable and secure place for anyone to access the web, and my works aims to assist patrons of any level of digital literacy to have the same opportunity for Internet access.”

Leigh Seldon – VCN Intern at Gallery Gachet
“At Gallery Gachet I worked in the Computer Salon, so I was always there to answer questions and help volunteers, collective members and the general public on the computers. Having access to the computer and internet is important because many people who use them do not have access to them at home. The gallery computer also gives access to programs like the adobe creative suite that may be too expensive for people to own themselves.”

Tania Ehret – VCN Intern at UBC Learning Exchange
“I helped patrons using the Internet when they required assistance, be it setting up an email or other social media presence, or researching for grants and school opportunities for older adults. I facilitated the basic computer class, a couple rounds through.

These services are essential to the site in attempting to bridge the digital divide and providing education around computer and Internet use for people experiencing barriers, especially in terms of employment.”
