VCN is the delivery organization for the Digital Skills for Youth Program in Western Canada.
Digital Skills for Youth (DS4Y) is is a national initiative coordinated by Industry Canada through the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment Strategy overseen by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada.
In today’s tough economy, paid professional development opportunities for students and recent graduates are becoming harder and harder to come by. Despite being educated, skills and motivated to work, many youth remain underemployed and unemployed.
The objectives of the DS4Y program are the assist young people in gaining the skills and experience needed to successfully transition into and remain in the labour force; and to encourage not-for-profit organizations, as well as businesses with up to 100 employees across Canada to develop and apply Information and Communications Technology (ICT) related skills, knowledge and opportunities. The DS4Y program is integral to the Youth Employment Strategy, with ICT-related not-for-profit organizations providing job opportunities for over 1,000 young Canadians each year.
